Muskegon Area District Library
Structured Cabling and Technical Project Management
In October 2018 Muskegon Area District Library (MADL) posted a government request for proposal (RFP) looking to upgrade the networking infrastructure at their ten locations across Muskegon County. The existing infrastructure at these locations was dated and limiting some of the technology enhancements that the MADL was looking to do internally. Upon completion of this upgrade they would be able to interconnect the locations and provide additional services to users of the locations.
With our knowledge around structured cabling, we felt we would be the best company to complete this work for MADL so we submitted a bid to do the cabling/connectors and network rack portion of the project. This included quoting mounting and installation of networking racks, new patch panels, running new network drops, test tone and label all new and existing drops, and repair damaged drops for all locations. In late November 2018 we were informed that we had been selected as the vendor for what we bid on.
Due to part of this project being government funded we had to wait for the funding to be approved before we could begin. While waiting for that to happen we spent time planning out this project. That included staffing for the work, figuring out the total amount of cable, connectors, and other items needed to complete the project. In May 2019, the funding was made available and we could move ahead with scheduling and completing the work. What we had to do at each location was going to cause a disruption in internet service so we had to plan accordingly with the MADL staff to work at the least disruptive time to the staff and users.
In June 2019 we started at the first location and in August 2019 completed the last location. All the work was completed on-time and on budget as well as to the specs that we quoted. MADL is pleased with the work quality we provided and said the project went well.
